Winthrop Baseball Holds First Practice of 2019

Eagles Open February 15 vs. Toledo

ROCK HILL, S.C. - Friday marked the official start of the 2019 Winthrop Baseball season, as the Eagles took the field for their first full practice at the Winthrop Ballpark. 

Winthrop brings back two players who received 2018 All-Big South selections in senior starting pitcher Nate Pawelczyk (Second Team) and junior starting pitcher Zach Peek (Honorable Mention). 

Among position players, Winthrop bring back six players who started at least 40 games in 2018. On the mound, the Eagles return seven pitchers who made at least 10 appearances in 2018 and four pitchers who recorded at least 30 strikeouts, including 2018 team leader Zach Peek (99). 

Winthrop was selected to finish third in the Big South conference in 2019, receiving one first place vote. 

Winthrop opens the season on Fri., Feb. 15 at 4:00 pm, hosting Toledo in a three-game weekend series at The Winthrop Ballpark. Season tickets are on sale now for $70 each on winthropeagles.com as well as a Saturday mini-plan for $25.
