ROCK HILL, S.C. - Winthrop women's tennis newcomer
Rafaela Santos has been named Big South Freshman of the Week, the conference office announced Wednesday. It is the first career honor for Santos in the league's first round of weekly awards for the season.Â
In her spring debut, Santos was the clinching point in the Eagles' 4-3 season-opening win over a tough William & Mary team (the 2018 CAA champion), finishing off a three-set victory with a 6-1 third set to decide the match for Winthrop. Santos also helped the Eagles win the doubles point, partnering with
Alisa Soloveva for a 6-2 win at court two as Winthrop took two doubles courts.
