ROCK HILL, S.C. - Winthrop women's tennis opens the 2019 spring campaign with a nonconference contest against William & Mary on Sun., Jan. 20 at 11 a.m. With the cold temperatures and rain in the area, the squads are taking the match indoors to Life Time Athletic Club (11220 Golf Links Dr, Charlotte, NC 28277).

EAGLE HIGHLIGHTS ENTERING 2019
-Winthrop welcomes two newcomers to the 2019 squad, Camila Andrade (Bogota, Colombia) and Rafaela Santos (Sao Bernardo do Campo, Brazil)

-All-Americans Megan Kauffman and Lauren Proctor will serve as team captains this season.

-In 2018 Winthrop won its 20^th all-time Big South Conference Championship title, earning its 16^th bid to the NCAA Tournament. The team made more history, earning its first-ever NCAA Tournament victory with a 4-3 win over No. 20 Auburn in the first round.

THE MATCH-UP
-William & Mary has played one match so far this spring, a 6-1 victory over Richmond.
-The Tribe won the CAA in 2018, joining the Eagles as NCAA Tournament participants. W&M has won 26 of the 34 all-time CAA Championships, including each of the last four.
-W&M won last year's match-up with Winthrop 4-2, a consolation match in the ITA Kickoff Weekend in Chapel Hill, N.C.

PRESEASON RANKINGS
Proctor enters the spring ranked No. 66 after the fall season. Doubles duo Proctor and Kauffman, who tore through 2018 on an undefeated 24-match winning streak that carried them to the NCAA Doubles Championship Quarterfinals, enter the spring ranked No. 22 in the nation.

UP NEXT
The Eagles head to Nashville, Tenn. for the ITA Kickoff Weekend, Jan. 25-26. Winthrop will face Oklahoma on Jan. 25 then either Vanderbilt or Memphis on Jan. 26 depending on outcomes.
