Men's Tennis Wins Fourth-Straight Match With 4-3 Victory At App State

Eagles improve to 8-6 on the season and 4-4 in road matches.

BOONE, N.C. – Winthrop men's tennis (8-6, 4-0 Big South) won its fourth-consecutive match with a 4-3 road win at Appalachian State (10-9, 0-1 Sun Belt) Sunday afternoon.

HOW IT HAPPENED
-App State took an early lead with the doubles point with close 6-4 wins on courts one and two.

-The Eagles bounced back with a strong start in singles play, led off by Gabriel Dias at No. 5 with a dominant 6-1, 6-1 victory, his first straight-set victory of the season.

-Tremayne Mitchell gave the Eagles a 2-1 lead with his eighth-consecutive singles win, and second-consecutive in straight-sets. The win was just Mitchell's second appearance at the No. 2 position this season, playing most of the season at court four.

-Winthrop's lead would stretch to 3-1 with another straight-set win delivered by Connor Williamson, also the second-consecutive victory for the sophomore and both in straight-sets.

-The Mountaineers weren't going quietly, however, coming back with wins on court one and three to knot the match up at 3-3. The decision would come down to Aditya Gokhale on court six. The junior, playing in the singles lineup for just the fourth time this season, earned his first singles victory of the season and clinched the match for the Eagles.
