Women's Tennis Continues Road Stretch At Charleston, No. 10 Wake Forest

Seven-match winning streak on the line

ROCK HILL, S.C. – Winthrop women's tennis (7-2, 2-0 Big South) puts its seven-match winning streak on the line this weekend with two road matches. The Eagles will head to Charleston Friday to take on College of Charleston, then head across the border to North Carolina to take on tenth-ranked Wake Forest on Sunday at 10 a.m.

EAGLE HIGHLIGHTS
-The Eagles took a dominant 7-0 sweep over Gardner-Webb on the road on Wednesday afternoon, the squad's seventh-straight victory.

-Sophomore Alisa Soloveva is undefeated at court two, and has won her last three matches in straight sets.

-Lauren Proctor and Megan Kauffman are undefeated in the No. 1 doubles position with an 8-0 record.

-Proctor has won seven-straight singles matches at court one, five of them in straight sets.

AN EYE ON THE OPPONENTS 
CofC is off to a strong 9-4 start on the season including wins over Winthrop's fellow Big South member Gardner-Webb and future member USC Upstate.
Wake Forest enjoys two nationally ranked singles players in No. 36 Emma Davis and No. 88 Eliza Omirou. In doubles, Davis and partner Chandler Carter are ranked No. 31 in the nation while Omirou and partner Anna Ulyashchenko are ranked No. 66.

UP NEXT
The last two stops of this six-match road stretch are next week, with the Eagles taking on conference foes Radford and Longwood. Winthrop will go to Radford on Weds., Mar. 14 at 1 p.m. and Longwood the following day, Thurs., Mar. 15 at 2 p.m.

PRESEASON FAVORITE
The Winthrop women's tennis team has been predicted to finish first in the Big South Conference by the league's coaches, receiving all but one of the first-place votes. This year's selection marks the 15th consecutive year Winthrop has been voted the preseason favorite by the coaches. Winthrop won the league title last season, the program's 19th conference championship overall.

HISTORIC NATIONAL RANKING
Junior Lauren Proctor is ranked No. 23 in the Oracle/ITA Division I Women's National Singles Rankings, a slight drop from her previous-high ranking of No. 14. She is currently the only student-athlete nationally ranked from the Big South Conference.  Proctor had a history-making fall season, winning the ITA Carolinas Regional title for the first time in program history.
  
BIG SOUTH CONFERENCE CHAMPIONSHIP
Mark your calendars - Winthrop is hosting the Big South Conference Championship in men's and women's tennis April 17-21. More information on match times and locations will be available at a later date.
