Zach Peek has been named the Big South Starting Pitcher of the Week, the conference office announced Monday. It is the first weekly conference honor of Peek's career.
Peek was dominant in his third appearance of the season, an 8-2 Winthrop victory over Kent State on Fri. Mar. 2, recording a new-career high 12 strikeouts, nine of which were swinging, in a career-long 8.0 innings of work. Peek took a no-hitter into the seventh inning and only gave up two hits on the day, one single and one triple. Only the triple, hit in the seventh inning, resulted in a run, the only run scored on Peek on the day. His 28 strikeouts on the season leads the Eagles.
Peek was named Big South Preseason Pitcher of the Year by Perfect Game and is ranked 49th overall in PG's USA Top 100 draft prospects for 2019.
