McGuire Announces Additions, Changes to Baseball Staff

Rock Hill, S.C. -- Winthrop head coach Mike McGuire has announced additions and changes to his baseball staff for the new campaign.

McGuire looks to continue his built momentum in his first year in the Eagles dugout, helping Winthrop to its first winning season since the shortened season of 2020.

Ryan Miller has been promoted to assistant coach after spending the 2025 slate as the director of pitching development. Miller came over from Big South rival, Longwood, where he held the same position in 2023.

"Ryan has exhibited in the short time we've worked together that he is going to be a pitching coach real soon and has a great future in this profession," said McGuire. "I'm excited to make him a full-time assistant.  He and pitching coach Tim Perry worked very well together this past year, and I expect that union to be even stronger going forward."

Mike Bello has been hired as the Director of Player Development. Bello is no stranger to the collegiate baseball realm, as he was a two-year member and team captain of the Troy University baseball team after spending two years at Auburn University. Bello also brings coaching experience to the table, coaching as an assistant for the Southern Squeeze club team at the 17u level before joining Myrtle Beach Collegiate Summer League as an assistant.

"Mike played collegiately in two very good programs in Auburn and Troy," states McGuire. "He has been around high-level baseball and played for and learned a great deal as a player from great coaching staffs.  He also comes from a baseball family.  His exposure to the coaching world is far more advanced than the average player that just ended their playing career.  He has a bright future in the industry and I'm very excited to add him to our coaching staff."
