Mike Bello joined the Eagles in 2025 as the Director of Player Development before being promoted to a full-time assistant coach in 2026. He comes to Winthrop after a playing career at Auburn and Troy universities and coaching experience in player development.
"Mike played collegiately in two very good programs in Auburn and Troy," said McGuire. "He has been around high-level baseball and played for and learned a great deal as a player from great coaching staffs. He also comes from a baseball family. His exposure to the coaching world is far more advanced than the average player that just ended their playing career. He has a bright future in the industry and I'm very excited to add him to our coaching staff."Â
Most recently, Bello served as Director of Player Development at Winthrop University, where he worked as Head Outfield Coach, Assistant Hitting Coach and First Base Coach, helped prepare scouting reports and supported the program's recruiting efforts.
Bello played two seasons at Troy University, where he served as team captain, and began his collegiate career at Auburn University from 2022-23, helping the Tigers reach the College World Series. He also gained coaching experience with the Southern Squeeze Baseball Club at the 17u level and the Myrtle Beach Summer Collegiate League.
A native of Oak Ridge, N.J., Bello comes from a baseball family. His father, Vin, coached high school baseball in New Jersey for 25 years and now resides in Orlando, Fla., with Bello's mother, Yvette. His brother Nicholas played college football at Assumption College and works in the front office for the Akron RubberDucks, while his brother Dominick plays baseball at Anderson University (S.C.).
