ROCK HILL, S.C. -- Winthrop baseball alum Brody Hopkins was tabbed Baseball America's Rays 2025 Minor League Player of the Year.
Hopkins, who was one of thirty players selected by Baseball America, who selects a Player of the Year for each of the 30 MLB organizations.
Drafted in the sixth round (187th overall) by the Seattle Mariners, Hopkins featured in the 2025 AL & NL All-Star Futures Game this summer. He is highly ranked in the Rays' prospect lists. In 2025, he's rated as the Rays' No. 11 prospect by Baseball America, No. 8 by MLB Pipeline, and No. 9 by ESPN.
Hopkins currently plays with the Montgomery Biscuits, the Double-A affiliate of the Tampa Bay Rays, pitching at a clip of 2.72 ERA with a 1.25 WHIP in 116.0 innings sporting a 5-7 record on the bump. While with Montgomery in 2025, Hopkins has shown strong performances, in one start on June 4 he struck out nine batters over six innings, allowing just one run.
