ROCK HILL, S.C. – In its second Big South Conference match in two days, Winthrop men's tennis downed UNC Asheville 5-2 to improve to 3-5 overall and 2-0 in league play.

The Eagles started out strong with a three-court sweep to take the doubles point, with duo Diego Quiroz and Connor Williamson hanging on for a tiebreak win to complete the sweep.
Quiroz would make quick work of his Bulldog opponent with a 6-3, 6-0 victory to spark the Eagles into singles play. Asheville would score next with a win on court three, but the Eagles would clinch the match win as Gabriel Dias and Tremayne Mitchell gutted out three-set victories on courts four and five, respectively.


NOTABLES
-Diego Quiroz has won five of his last six singles matches at court one.

-Gabriel Dias and Joshua Ryan won their fourth-straight match at the No. 3 doubles position. In singles play, Dias has won three of his last four and Ryan has won three-straight matches.
-For the second-straight match, the majority of singles courts went to three sets, with four of the six courts needing a third set for a decision.

-Tremayne Mitchell won his court five match in three sets, 6-7, 6-1, 6-2, improving to 3-0 in three-set matches.
