ROCK HILL, S.C. – Winthrop women's tennis (10-4, 4-0 Big South) fell just a few games short against a talented VCU team (11-2) Saturday afternoon, falling 4-3 at Rock Hill Tennis Center.

The Eagles won the doubles point for the 12^th time out of their 14 matches this season, as undefeated duo Lauren Proctor and Megan Kauffman improved to 12-0 with a 6-2 victory on court one. VCU would claim victory on court three to force a decision on court two where Alisa Soloveva and Tayla Van Eck would clinch the point for the Eagles with a tiebreak victory.

The back-and-forth battles would continue in singles play with straight-set finishes on courts one, two, six and four giving VCU a 3-2 edge in the match. Kauffman delivered a three-set victory on court three to even the match again at 3-3 and bring all eyes down to court five for the third set battle between Winthrop's Aida Kelic and VCU's Melissa Ifidzhen, featuring several long rallies. Ifidzhen would come out on top to deliver the dramatic win for VCU.

NOTABLES
- The singles victory was the 10^th of the season for No. 23 Lauren Proctor, putting her at 10-2 overall.

-Megan Kauffman has won three-straight singles matches to improve her record to 7-6.
