FARMVILLE, Va. – Winthrop women's tennis (9-3, 3-0) remains undefeated in league play with a 7-0 sweep on the road at Longwood (4-4, 0-3) Wednesday afternoon.
Even without nationally ranked No. 23
Lauren Proctor in the lineup, who was unavailable to play due to the number of tournaments she played in the fall, the Eagles brought home a dominant victory over the Lancers with an altered line-up.Â
Winthrop got off to a strong start, sweeping all three doubles courts for the fourth time this season. Â Winthrop clinched the match with three quick victories in singles play on courts one, five and two, and would go on to complete the sweep, dropping only one set on the day.
NOTABLES
-Sophomore
Alisa Soloveva stepped up on court one in the absence of Proctor and earned a 6-1, 6-1 victory, her tenth win of the season.
-Freshman
Ellie Burns made the most of her opportunity in the line-up, earning her first-career singles victory, 6-1, 6-1 over Julia Candiotto.
-The doubles sweep was even more remarkable considering each partnership was playing together for the first time this season.
