Women's Tennis Hits the Road for Back-to-Back Conference Matches at Longwood, Radford

Contests conclude six-match road stretch for the Eagles.

ROCK HILL, S.C. – Winthrop women's tennis (8-3, 2-0) will complete a six-match road stretch this week with two conference opponents on back-to-back days. The Eagles will take on Longwood Weds., Mar. 14 at 3 p.m. and Radford on Thurs., Mar. 15 at 1 p.m. The matches were originally scheduled in reverse, with Winthrop taking on Radford on Wednesday, but rescheduled due to cold weather in Radford, Va.

EAGLE HIGHLIGHTS
-The Eagles won their eighth-straight match with a 6-1 victory over College of Charleston last Friday, the squad's longest winning streak since the 2106 team also won eight consecutive matches. The streak would end against the No. 10 team in the nation, Wake Forest.

-Lauren Proctor and Megan Kauffman remain undefeated in the No. 1 doubles position with a 10-0 record. At Wake Forest, the pair took down the Demon Deacons' duo Chandler Carter and Emma Davis, nationally ranked at No. 31, by a score of 6-3.

-Alisa Soloveva fell just a few points shy of maintaining her undefeated record, suffering a third-set tiebreak loss (10-7) to No. 88 Eliza Omirou of Wake Forest. Soloveva's overall record remains an outstanding 9-1.  

AN EYE ON THE OPPONENTS 
In its last match, Longwood also faced an ACC opponent, falling 4-0 to Miami (Fla.) The Lancers are 0-2 in Big South play with losses to Charleston Southern and Campbell and were predicted to finish ninth in the preseason poll.
Radford is on a two-match winning streak with wins over Norfolk State and Wayne State in Orlando, Fla. The match with Winthrop serves as the Big South opener for Radford. The Highlanders were picked to finish seventh in the preseason poll.

UP NEXT
Winthrop ends this stretch of road matches and returns home to Rock Hill to host non-conference opponent VCU on Sat., Mar. 17 at 11 a.m. The following Saturday, the Eagles then host conference foe Campbell at 10 a.m. Both matches are at Rock Hill Tennis Center.

PRESEASON FAVORITE
The Winthrop women's tennis team has been predicted to finish first in the Big South Conference by the league's coaches, receiving all but one of the first-place votes. This year's selection marks the 15th consecutive year Winthrop has been voted the preseason favorite by the coaches. Winthrop won the league title last season, the program's 19th conference championship overall.

HISTORIC NATIONAL RANKING
Junior Lauren Proctor is ranked No. 23 in the Oracle/ITA Division I Women's National Singles Rankings, a slight drop from her previous-high ranking of No. 14. She is currently the only student-athlete nationally ranked from the Big South Conference.  Proctor had a history-making fall season, winning the ITA Carolinas Regional title for the first time in program history.
