RALEIGH, N.C. – Winthrop men's tennis fell 7-0 in its season opener on the road at ACC opponent N.C. State Saturday afternoon.

The Pack took the doubles point with wins on courts two and three. No. 42-ranked pair Diego Quiroz and Ruy Teixeira's contest at the one position would end tied at 4-4 once the point was decided. Quiroz and Teixeira were in a rematch with Igor and Ivan Saveljic, who they defeated 6-3, 6-4 in the ITA Carolinas Regional Championships in October.

N.C. State carried the momentum into singles play taking the first set on all four courts in initial action (positions one through four.) At court two, Teixeira battled back for a 7-6 second set win to force a third set. However, NC State would clinch the overall match with victories on courts four, one and three before going on to the sweep.

UP NEXT:
The Eagles will stay on the road for their next two matches, taking on Navy and ECU in Greenville, N.C., Jan. 27-28. Winthrop's home opener is set for Sat., Feb. 10 against Wofford at 12 p.m. at Rock Hill Tennis Center.
