SERIES HISTORY VERSUS GEORGIA STATE
Winthrop and Georgia State meet for just the third time as each team has won on their home field. The first contest took place in Rock Hill on Sept. 22, 1999 as the Eagles won 2-0. The following year the Eagles traveled to Georgia State and fell 3-1, which is the last time the two teams faced each other.

A GLANCE AT THE EAGLES
Winthrop recorded its second shutout of the season and third straight at Eagle Field. A 4-0 win over USC Upstate on Wednesday was the fourth straight home victory for the Eagles as they search for their first road win of 2017 (0-2-1). This will be the second program from the state of Georgia the Eagles have faced this season and the second of three as the Eagles will host Georgia Southern on Tuesday, Sept. 19. The Eagles are averaging 1.80 goals per game while allowing 0.80. Senior Max Hasenstab continues to lead the offense with 11 points (5g, 1a) while senior Rasmus Arousell is second with six points (3 goals). Senior Kenneth Perkinson is coming off arguably his best performance in an Eagle uniform (9 saves vs. USC Upstate) and has two shutouts this season while averaging 6.6 saves per game.

A GLANCE AT THE PANTHERS
After opening the season 2-0 the Panthers are 1-3 since. Georgia State opened the year with back-to-back 2-0 wins over Mercer and USC Upstate at home. The three losses on the year are all by a score of 1-0 and squeezed between the losses is an overtime win at second-ranked Wake Forest (2-1). Hannes Burmeister leads the offense with three goals while Rashid Alarape is second with two. Alarape scored the game-winner at Wake Forest in the 92nd minute, which earned him the Sun Belt Conference Player of the Week honor. The Panthers were picked to finish third in the Sun Belt this season receiving one first-place vote and just two votes behind Georgia Southern. The Sun Belt has a preseason All-Conference Team and three members of Georgia State were named to the team; Frank Rosenwald, Burmeister and Liam Fitzsimmons.

HASENSTAB TABBED BIG SOUTH ATTACKING PLAYER OF THE WEEK
Following his hat trick in the win over Wofford on Sunday, Max Hasenstab was named the Big South Attacking Player of the Week. It was his third career hat trick and the third time in his career to capture the honor.

HASENSTAB ONE OF NATION'S TOP SCORING THREATS
Redshirt senior Max Hasenstab has had a decorated career and enters the 2017 season among some of the NCAA Division I active scoring leaders. Hasenstab entered the season third among active players with 1.67 points per game and has moved to 2nd at 1.72 per game. He remains ahead of Maryland's Gordon Wild for the most goals for an active player with 39. He began the year 3rd in goals per game at .71 and has increased that to .74 (3rd). Through five games he's tied for 5th nationally in goals per game and tied for 9th in points per game. He is a three-time All-Big South selection and the 2015 Big South Conference Tournament MVP. He has 91 career points, which ranks 1st among active players and is 8th all-time in Winthrop history.

WHAT'S AHEAD
Winthrop will be back in Rock Hill on Tuesday, Sept. 19 when it hosts Georgia Southern at 7 p.m. It will be the first of two straight home games as the Eagles will then host Presbyterian College on Saturday, Sept. 23 at 7 p.m. in the Big South opener for both teams.

BIG SOUTH PRESEASON POLL
Winthrop was picked fifth in the Big South Preseason Poll as it was tied with Campbell with 45 votes. The Eagles captured their final two league games of 2016, but did not advance to the conference tournament. Winthrop and Campbell were just seven votes behind Longwood in 4th. The Highlanders received 7-of-9 first-place votes while High Point was picked second and Liberty third.
