ROCK HILL, SC – The Winthrop Baseball team travels to Farmville, Virginia where it takes on Longwood for a three game series beginning with a doubleheader on Friday with first pitch at 11 a.m. and Saturday at 4 pm.
The Eagles are 21-16 and 8-4 in the Big South and are coming off a win against North Carolina A&T 11-4. The Lancers are 12-23 and 4-8 in the Big South and are coming off a loss against #11 Virginia 13-2.
Both teams had players awarded Player of the Week and Pitcher of the Week. For the Eagles
Anthony Paulsen won Player of the Week after he batted .500 with seven runs scored, five
RBI and a home run, while Longwood's Cody Wager won Pitcher of the week as he pitched nine innings, had 13 strikeouts, as they won 2-1 over Presbyterian College.
Junior
Mitch Spires is entering the weekend coming off a 3-for-4 night against North Carolina A&T where he had three RBI and four runs scored and increased his batting average to .346 and leads the team in batting average.
The Lancers Sammy Miller leads the team in batting average with .319 and runs scored with 23. He has 37 hits on the season with nine doubles, two triples, and 14 RBI.
Winthrop took one out of three last year against Longwood at home but took Sunday's game 4-2 and are 7-3 all-time against Longwood
