ROCK HILL, S.C. – The Winthrop baseball team returns home for its second home series of the year as it takes on Canisius College in a three-game series beginning on Friday at 6 pm at the Winthrop Ballpark.
Winthrop (5-7) is coming off a loss against #8 South Carolina this past Wednesday while Canisius College (9-3) is coming off a 3-1 series win over Fordham.
The Eagles will be playing a doubleheader against Canisius College beginning at 2 pm on Saturday. The schedule change is due to the inclement weather forecast for Sunday.
Winthrop will be sending
Thad Harris to the mound on Friday as he looks to get his first win of the season. The Golden Griffins are sending Zach Sloan to the mound while he enters the game with a 1-0 record but with a 5.62 ERA.
Senior
Reece Green will be on the mound for Winthrop Saturday as he enters the game with a 1-1 record and a 2.86 ERA and Canisius College throwing JP Stevenson who enters the game with a 3-0 record and a 0.93 ERA. For the second game on Saturday Winthrop has not picked a pitcher yet while Canisius College will send Andrew Kneussle to the mound for his first start of the season.
Junior
Mitch Spires has gotten on base six straight games and has a four game hitting streak. Senior
Babe Thomas is coming off a three hit game that included a three run triple in the first inning against USC.
The Golden Griffins are known for their contact as they only have two home runs on the season. They are carried by Jake Lumley who is hitting .358 with three doubles and Ryan Stekl who is hitting .354 with four doubles.
