The Eagles have won three straight games since falling at home on New Year's Eve and sit in a three-way tie in first place of the Big South standings. Winthrop, UNC Asheville, and Liberty all sit in first with a 4-1 mark with Campbell, Radford and Longwood just a game behind at 3-2.

This matchup features two of the top teams in the league statistically. Winthrop leads the Big South in scoring at 78.8 ppg and Campbell is second at 76.5. The Eagles have the top scoring margin in the league at +7.9 while Campbell is 4th at +4.9. The Camels are the top free throw shooting team while the Eagles are third.

While the teams are also known for their explosive offenses, they also rank in the top three of a couple of defensive categories. Winthrop is first in the league field goal percentage defense while Campbell is third. Campbell tops the league in three-point field goal percentage defense (.303) while the Eagles are second (.314). Something will have to give as they are both good three-point shooting teams with Winthrop leading the league with 9.19 threes per game and Campbell is making 8.12 a game.

The game also features four of the league's top nine scorers, including the top two in Chris Clemons and Keon Johnson. Clemons leads the conference with 23.6 ppg while Johnson is second at 21.3 ppg. Johnson has scored 20 or more points in all five conference games and is 8th in the league in field goal percentage while ranking second in free throw percentage at .879. Johnson became the program's Division I all-time scorer in the win over Presbyterian College as he now sets his sights on becoming the all-time scorer. He is now just 170 points away from Charles Brunson's career point total of 1,850.

Winthrop's Xavier Cooks is 6th in the Big South in scoring at 15.6 ppg and third in rebounding with 7.6 per game while Campbell's Shane Whitefield is 9th in the league in scoring at 13.4 ppg. There are also three of the league's top four shot blockers in this matchup as Campbell's Andrew Eudy leads the league at 2.06 blocks per game. Winthrop's Duby Okeke is second in the league with 1.88 blocks per game and Cooks is fourth at 1.56.

This will be the 35th meeting between Winthrop and Campbell with the Eagles having won the last time they met. Winthrop traveled to Buies Creek to wrap-up regular season play last season and pulled out an 87-71 victory. Campbell leads the series 20-14, winning two of the last three meetings and holds a 3-1 mark against Winthrop at Gore Arena since it opened nearly 10 years ago.

The Camels are coming off a 76-60 win at Gardner-Webb on Wednesday behind 28 points from Clemons and 19 from Whitfield.
