ROCK HILL, SC--A total of 20 schools will be represented when the 33rd annual Winthrop Adidas Invitational cross country meet is run on Saturday at the Winthrop Lake Course.
 
The field includes 18 men's teams and 17 women's squads.  The men's 8K race will begin at 9 a.m. followed by the women's 5K at 10:00.  Admission is free for this event and parking will be available in the Winthrop Coliseum lots.

Both the Winthrop men and women are coming off strong performances in their openers at the Early Season Challenge, a 5K event for both the men and women which was held Sept. 2 in Columbia.  The men's team finished first while the women were second.  Kevin Mills, a redshirt sophomore from Suwanee, GA, won the men's individual title, while freshman Harper Henson (Midlothian, VA) claimed the women's crown.

Winthrop head coach Ben Paxton says, "I think we can keep the progress we've had in this first month and build upon that success.  I am looking forward to seeing Kevin (Mills) over the 8K distance as well as our ladies in Henson, (Olivia) Paxton, and (Emily) Sparrow."
 
Results will be recorded in the Gold (Div. I) and the Garnet (non-Div. I) categories. 
Schools participating in the Gold division include Winthrop (M&W), Presbyterian College (M&W), South Carolina (W), and USC Upstate (M&W).
 
The Garnet division schools include: Allen (M&W), Belmont Abbey (M&W), Benedict (M&W), Brevard (M&W), Catawba (M&W), Claflin (M&W), Columbia College (W), Emmanuel (M&W), Johnson C. Smith (M&W), Limestone (M), Morehouse (M), Morris (M), Newberry (M&W), Paine (M&W), USC-Beaufort  (M&W), and Wingate (M&W).
 
Awards will be presented following the meet to the top two teams and the top 10 individual finishers in each division.
