CLEMSON, SC - The Winthrop men's tennis team dropped a doubleheader to Clemson at the Hoke Sloan Tennis Center on Friday afternoon, losing 4-0 and 4-1.
It marked just the fifth time that Winthrop has played Clemson. The two losses evens the Eagles record at 4-4 while the Tigers improve to 7-5.

Aditya Gokhale (Pune, India) was the lone Eagle to seize a victory as the claimed a 7-6 (7-4), 6-2 win at the No. 1 position over Brent Lett.

Michael Chen all he could handle at No. 3, winning 6-2, 6-1. At No. 5, freshman
Ruy Teixeira came out firing for the Eagles taking the first set decisively, 6-1, but couldn't close out the Tigers' Robert Dudley, losing the next two sets 6-3, 6-0. Gokhale stepped up for the Eagles posting his eighth straight win of the season with his victory over Lett.
The match was decided at the No. 1 position, with
Tremayne Mitchell (Johannesburg, South Africa) going toe-to-toe against the Tigers' Alexandre Favrot. Mitchell gave a valiant effort, but would eventually fall in three sets, 7-5 1-6 6-2. Patrick was battling Arturo Pinazo 6-7 3-4 and Quiorz had made an impressive comeback against Sanon, 2-6 6-2 5-0 when the match was decided.
Match Two SummaryIn Doubles competition, the team of Patrick and Mitchell just couldn't push past the Tigers' duo of Favrot and Johnson, falling 6-2. Quiroz and Ryan would slide up to the No.2 position as they took on Clemson's Dudley and Sanon. Clemson would come out on top again taking the set 6-3 and clinching the doubles point. Rounding it out at No. 3, Chen and Gokhale had a lead of 5-2 over Clemson's Pinazo and Harris when the doubles point was decided.
In Singles, the Eagles could not come up with the goods after a long day, losing at No. 1, 3, and 6. On Court 6, Ryan fell 6-2, 6-1 to Harris. No. 3 Chen fell to Johnson, who won his 12
th straight match of the season 6-3, 6-3. Mitchell fell again to Favrot of 6-3, 6-3. Quiroz, Patrick, and Gokhale were still competing when the match was decided.
The Eagles will be home on Saturday when they host College of Charleston on at 10:00 a.m.
