LAST MATCH
In their last contest, the Eagles scored a season-high four goals but allowed three second half goals to suffer the loss. Senior center back Jordi Lluch continued to provide some offense as he netted the first two goals of the game, giving him six on the season with an average of a goal per game. His goals per game average ranks sixth nationally and he's 12th in the nation in points per game (2.0). Junior Max Hasenstab tallied his second on the season in the loss while Marco Gatzke found the net for the first time this season. The Eagles had managed just six goals in the first five games.

WHO TO WATCH
Lluch has scored a goal in three straight games, four total goals in that span. The Eagles have not had a defender lead the team in goals. His six goals are tied for the most goals in a single-season by a defender in the program's history with Alex Herrera (1986) and Tom Haxton (1980). He is only two points away from tying the single-season record for points by a defender as Herrera had 14 in 1986 while Gary Baker is next with 13 in 1994.

WHAT YOU NEED TO KNOW
Winthrop has lost five straight since opening the season with a win over Brevard College. Winthrop is looking to avoid its longest losing streak since dropping seven straight in 2011.
Lluch's six goals are the most on the team and are third in the Big South Conference while Hasenstab is second on the team with two. As a team, Winthrop ranks 24th nationally in shots on goal per game and 26th in total shots but has struggled scoring at 1.67 goals per game as that average was just 1.2 through the first five games.
The Eagles are still dealing with a number of injuries as junior Pietro Bottari left the USC Upstate game after 12 minutes and has not returned to practice. Sophomore Sal Perez started at outside back against the Spartans but left the game after 78 minutes and is likely out against the Mountaineers. There are also a number players banged up and question marks for Tuesday.

ABOUT OPPONENT
Appalachian State is off to a 3-3 start this season and coming off a 2-1 loss at Radford, its second straight defeat. The Mountaineers had won three straight prior to losing games to Longwood and Radford.
Junior Stephen Chapman leads the Mountaineers in scoring with three goals (six points) while four other players have scored one goal. Senior Paul West has started five games and has a 2-3 record with a 1.59 goals against average with one shutout. App State recorded back-to-back shutout victories in overtime against Belmont and Lipscomb.

SERIES HISTORY
This will mark the 17th meeting between the two programs with the Mountaineers leading the all-time series 10-4-2 as the teams have split the last two meetings. The Eagles led the series 3-1-1 through the first five meetings but then the Mountaineers won the next seven in the series. Winthrop is 1-4-1 against Appalachian State on Eagle Field all-time. The lone victory came on Oct. 15, 1995 with a 3-2 victory. In 14 meetings not decided by a tie, 12 of the games have been decided by one goal.
