CLINTON, SC—The Winthrop Eagles' men's tennis team dropped a 4-3 decision at Presbyterian College Friday afternoon.
The Eagles were able to take the early lead by winning the doubles competition. No. 1 duo of
Dylan Comerford and
Peter Nagovnak defeated Alexander Lykou and Brandon Mills 8-6. The No. 2 pairing of
Steven Patrick and
Tremayne Mitchell fell 8-6 to Ben Kelley and Joel Roberts. No. 3 combo of
Michael Chen and
Joshua Ryan clinched the doubles point with their 8-4 victory over Ryan Miller and Danny Bruce.
Winthrop stretched its advantage to 3-0 by taking the No. 1 and No. 2 singles slots. No. 1
Tremayne Mitchell topped Lykou 6-4, 6-3. No. 2 Comerford bested Miller 6-4, 6-4. Presbyterian finished strong winning the No. 3-6 singles positions. No. 3 Patrick lost 6-3, 5-7, 6-2 to Alejandro Bejar. No. 4 Nagovnak fell 3-6, 7-6, 6-3 to Diego Manzanas. At the No. 5 position Chen lost 6-3, 6-4 to Bruce. The match was wrapped up when No. 6
Ruben Franzanti dropped a 7-5, 6-2 decision to Mills.
Winthrop, 12-7, will play its last regular season match at Coastal Carolina this Sunday, April 12 beginning at 1:00 pm.
