Ekin Gunaysu continues strong singles and doubles play with victories in both competitions
ROCK HILL, SC—The Winthrop Lady Eagles' tennis team rebounded from Saturday's letdown with a 6-1 victory over Radford Sunday afternoon at the Winthrop Memorial Tennis Courts.
The Lady Eagles began their bounce back performance by winning the doubles competition. No. 1 duo of
Alice Garcia and
Mariana Humberg bested Gemma Valls and Taylor Newman 8-2. No. 2 combo of
Ekin Gunaysu and
Tijana Uzelac clinched the doubles point with a win over Meg Napolitano and Grace Sarver 8-5. No. 3
Monica Aguado and Camille Amrani fell to Natalie Sayer and Taylor Fay 8-5.
Winthrop won the 1-5 singles positions to clinch the match. No. 1 Gunaysu beat Sayer 6-0, 6-3. No. 2 Garcia topped Newman 6-3, 6-3. No. 3 Humberg downed Valls 6-1, 6-4. At the No. 4 position Uzelac continued her strong play with a 6-2, 6-1 victory over Fay. At the No. 5 singles slot, Eagles' Aguado dropped Sarver 6-1, 6-0. Radford's Napolitano won over Amrani at the No. 6 position 1-0 due to retirement.
The Lady Eagles, 6-7, will continue their home stand when they next face Virginia Commonwealth Thursday, Mar. 12 at 2:00 pm at the Winthrop Memorial Tennis Courts.
