Alice Garcia continues strong play with singles and doubles victories for the Lady Eagles
BOX SCOREROCK HILL, SC—The Lady Eagles' tennis team extended their win streak to three straight Friday afternoon with a 6-1 victory over the Longwood Lancers at the Winthrop Memorial Tennis Courts.
Winthrop took the early lead winning the doubles competition and never looked back. No. 1 pairing of
Alice Garcia and
Mariana Humberg downed Malin Allgurin and Paloma Alatorre 8-1. No. 2 combo of
Tijana Uzelac and
Ekin Gunaysu clinched the doubles point by topping Anna Pelak and Nicole Parker 8-1. At the No. 3 doubles position
Monica Aguado and Camille Amrani fell to Mason Thomas and Maria Coronel 8-4.
The Lady Eagles took the first five singles positions. No. 1 Garcia defeated Allgurin 6-2, 6-1. No. 2 Gunaysuu beat Pelak 6-1, 6-2. No. 3 Uzelac bested Coronel 6-1, 6-0. The Lancers' No. 4 Alatorre retired against Humberg. No. 5 Aguado edged Thomas 6-1, 6-1. At the No. 6 position Winthrop's Amrani retired against Parker.

Ekin Gunaysu. "Charleston Southern is a strong team and always plays us tough so we will need to build upon these recent wins and come out and play a solid match tomorrow."
The Lady Eagles, 5-6, look to continue their winning ways when they travel to face Charleston Southern Saturday, Mar. 7, at 1:00 pm.
