BOX SCOREROCK HILL, SC—The Winthrop Lady Eagles' tennis team claimed their second straight win with a 4-3 victory over Furman Sunday afternoon at the Winthrop Memorial Tennis Courts.
The Lady Eagles jumped to the early lead by winning the first two doubles position and seizing the doubles point. No. 1 combo of
Alice Garcia and
Mariana Humberg bested Ansley Speaks and Alex Moreno 8-5. No. 2
Tijana Uzelac and
Ekin Gunaysu defeated Blair Martin and Alejandra Gil 8-6 to clinch the doubles point. No. 3 duo of
Monica Aguado and Camille Amrani lost to Karlee Bryde and Harper Caswell 8-0.
Furman tied the match at 1-1 with No. 1 Speaks garnering a 6-1, 6-4 victory over Gunaysu. Winthrop proceeded to win No. 2, 3, and 4 positions to clinch the match. No. 2 Garcia beat Moreno 6-0, 2-6, 6-2. No. 3 Humberg edged Martin 6-1, 6-3. No. 4 Uzelac topped Bryde 6-3, 6-0. No. 5 Aguado fell 6-3, 6-4 to Caswell. No. 6 Amrani lost 6-1, 6-2 to Gil.
The Winthrop Lady Eagles, 7-10, will try to continue their winning ways when they host Gardner Webb this Wednesday, Mar. 25 at 2:00 pm at the Winthrop Memorial Tennis Courts.
