Men's Tennis Team Remains Undefeated in Conference Play with 6-1 Win Over Gardner Webb

Steven Patrick Dominates in Both Singles and Doubles Victories

ROCK HILL, SC—The Winthrop Eagles' men's tennis team extended their win streak to six straight victories when they defeated Gardner-Webb 6-1 Sunday afternoon at the Winthrop Memorial Tennis Courts.

The Eagles jumped out to an early lead winning both No. 1 and No. 2 doubles and claiming the doubles point.  No. 1 combo Dylan Comerford and Peter Nagovnak topped Nikita Zverkov and Ernest Alberch 8-.3  No. 2 duo Steven Patrick and Tremayne Mitchell downed Jonathan Walker and Brendan Dempsey 8-3.  At the No. 3 doubles position Michael Chen and Joshua Ryan lost 8-6 to Benjamin Kaszas and Yaroslav Prostakov.

Winthrop carried the momentum into the singles competition only dropping the No. 4 slot.  No. 1 Mitchell won 4-6, 6-1, 6-3 over Kaszas.  No. 2 Comerford beat Zverkov 6-0, 6-0.  No. 3 Patrick battled to a 6-7, 7-5, 6-4 win over Alberch.  No. 5 Nagovnak bested Dempsey 5-7, 6-2, 6-1.  No. 6 Ruben Franzanti edged Prostakov 6-1, 6-4.  No. 4 Chen fell 6-1, 6-4 to Korhan Ates in Winthrop's lone singles loss.

Winthrop, 11-4, will try to make it seven straight when they travel to Myrtle Beach to face Coastal Carolina this Friday, Mar. 27 at 1:00 pm.
