BOX SCOREROCK HILL, SC—The Winthrop Eagles' men's tennis team extended their win streak to six straight victories when they defeated Gardner-Webb 6-1 Sunday afternoon at the Winthrop Memorial Tennis Courts.
The Eagles jumped out to an early lead winning both No. 1 and No. 2 doubles and claiming the doubles point. No. 1 combo
Dylan Comerford and
Peter Nagovnak topped Nikita Zverkov and Ernest Alberch 8-.3 No. 2 duo
Steven Patrick and
Tremayne Mitchell downed Jonathan Walker and Brendan Dempsey 8-3. At the No. 3 doubles position
Michael Chen and
Joshua Ryan lost 8-6 to Benjamin Kaszas and Yaroslav Prostakov.
Winthrop carried the momentum into the singles competition only dropping the No. 4 slot. No. 1 Mitchell won 4-6, 6-1, 6-3 over Kaszas. No. 2 Comerford beat Zverkov 6-0, 6-0. No. 3 Patrick battled to a 6-7, 7-5, 6-4 win over Alberch. No. 5 Nagovnak bested Dempsey 5-7, 6-2, 6-1. No. 6
Ruben Franzanti edged Prostakov 6-1, 6-4. No. 4 Chen fell 6-1, 6-4 to Korhan Ates in Winthrop's lone singles loss.
Winthrop, 11-4, will try to make it seven straight when they travel to Myrtle Beach to face Coastal Carolina this Friday, Mar. 27 at 1:00 pm.
