HUNTINGTON, WV—The Winthrop Lady Eagles' tennis team fell 6-1 to Miami (OH) Saturday afternoon at the neutral site of Huntington (WV) Tennis Center.
The doubles competition began with the No. 3 Camille Amrani and Monico Aguado falling 8-2 to Andreea Badileanu and Ramona Costea. At the No. 2 doubles position
Ekin Gunaysu and
Tijana Uzelac bested Ana Rajkovic and Alix Thurman 8-6. The doubles point was clinched for Miami when No. 1 combo of
Alice Garcia and
Mariana Humberg fell to Christine Guerrazzi and Nelli Ponomareva 8-5.
Miami stretched to a 2-0 lead in the match when No. 3 Uzelac lost to Badileanu 6-1, 6-0. No. 1 Garcia was then defeated by Thurman 6-3, 6-3. The match was clinched for Miami when No. 5 Aguado fell 6-1, 6-3 to Rajkovic. No. 4 Humberg lost in a super tiebreak 4-6, 6-4, 1-0 to Ponomareva. No. 6 Amrani was downed by Costea 6-1, 6-2. The Lady Eagles were able to take away something positive from the match when No. 2 Gunaysu topped Guerrazzi in a super tiebreak 6-4, 4-6, 1-0.
The Lady Eagles, 6-9, will look to get back on the winning track when they continue their road trip and travel to face Marshall Sunday, Mar. 15 at 10:00 am.
