Schedule Changes Made to Baseball's Weekend Series with Kennesaw State

ROCK HILL, SC- The Winthrop baseball team is set to host a three game series with Kennesaw State this weekend although inclement weather predictions have caused several changes to the schedule. The Eagles will now open the weekend with a double header on Saturday starting at 2:00 p.m. with the second game starting 45 minutes after the conclusion of the first game. Sunday's game has been moved to 2:00 p.m. This will be the first ever meeting between the two teams.

Winthrop (11-4) is looking to extend its home winning streak to eight while pushing its overall winning streak to five. Sophomore Babe Thomas has played an integral role in the Eagles' success this year both on offense and defense. Thomas has started all 15 games, either behind the plate or in the outfield. He is currently hitting .314 on the year, however his on base percentage is .500. He ranks seventh in the nation in walks, and reached base in all five of his plate appearances in the Eagles' 8-4 win over North Carolina A&T. Sam Kmiec, Zach Sightler and Matt Crohan have established themselves as Winthrop's starting weekend rotation. The three have combined for a 6-2 record and a 1.85 ERA. Kmiec also ranks 8th in the country in strikeouts with 36.

Kennesaw State (8-6) is trying to bounce back after losing its last two games to Georgia State and UAB. The Owls are 3-2 when on the road this season and have been outscored 36-33 when not at home. Although Chris Erwins leads the team with a .390 batting average, junior Kal Simmons leads the team with 14 runs, 17 hits, four home runs and 12 RBIs. Kennesaw State's projected pitching rotation has combined for a 2.45 ERA and an overall record of 5-4.
