ROCK HILL, SC—The Winthrop Eagles' Men's tennis team fell short to the Georgia State Panthers 4-3 Friday at the Winthrop Memorial Tennis Courts.
The No. 1 duo of
Dylan Comerford and
Peter Nagovnak lost a heartbreaker to Zack Kennedy and Sofiane Chevallier 7-6. At the No. 2 doubles position
Steven Patrick and
Tremayne Mitchell also fell to Sebastian Acuna and Andrei Andrukhou 7-6. The No. 3 pairing of
Michael Chen and
Ruben Franzanti finished doubles play on a strong note with a 6-4 win over Jannis Koeke and Felipe Jaworski.
The Eagles battled back winning the first three singles matches. No. 1 Mitchell dropped Koeke in straight sets 6-4, 7-6. No. 2 Comerford won 6-1, 6-4 over Kennedy. No. 3 Patrick downed Andrukhou 7-5, 6-3. No. 4 Chen lost a three set battle to Acura 6-2, 5-7, 6-4. No. 5 Nagovnak fell to Chevallier 6-4, 7-5. No 6. Franzanti fought back but couldn't hang on losing 7-6, 3-6, 6-2 to Jaworski.
The Eagles, 4-3, will be back in action this Sunday, Mar. 1 when they play back to back matches against UT Chattanooga and North Carolina Wesleyan starting at noon at the Winthrop Memorial Tennis Courts.
