ROCK HILL, SC- The Winthrop baseball team will play host for the third straight weekend series as it takes on Jacksonville University in a three game non-conference series starting on Friday at 4:00 p.m. The remaining games are scheduled for Saturday at 3:00 p.m. and Sunday at 1:00 p.m. This will be the 9
th time the Eagles have come up against the Dolphins, and Jacksonville leads the all-time series 2-6. Jacksonville took last year's series, 2-1, in Jacksonville.
Winthrop (3-3) are ready to take the field after its much anticipated  game against nationally ranked North Carolina was postponed indefinitely because of inclement weather. Winthrop's offense has been off to an impressive start, scoring the most runs in its opening six games since 2011. USC-Sumter transfer
Anthony Paulsen leads the team six runs batted in and two doubles and is tied for first in home runs (1), runs (5), and hits (8).
The Eagles are projected to start
Sam Kmiec,
Zach Sightler and
Matt Crohan. Kmiec, a junior southpaw, has returned to his position as the Friday starter and has an earned runs average of 1.93 in 14 innings in 2015. Sightler is 1-0 in his junior year, allowing eight hits and four runs. Crohan has yet to get a decision on the year, but has started two games for the Eagles giving up just one run in the seven innings.
The Dolphins (5-3) had a five game winning streak snapped on Tuesday as they fell on the road 10-7 to Florida State. Jacksonville had beaten the Seminoles 5-3 a week earlier but a four run sixth inning was too much for the Dolphins to recover from. Senior Angelo Amendolare leads the team in hits with 17, and is second in runs batted in (11) to junior Connor Marabell whose brought home 17. The Dolphins are led by head coach Tim Montez, who has compiled a record of 21-33 in his time in Jacksonville. Â
