ROCK HILL, SC—Winthrop men's soccer will host Radford Tuesday evening at 7 p.m. in a matchup of two teams that are unbeaten in Big South Conference action.

Magnus Thorsson scored the golden goal for the second straight contest. Winthrop gave up a goal in the 79
th minute and trailed 3-2 but Thorsson found the back of the net off a corner kick service from
Max Hasenstab in the 87
th minute to force overtime. The game was knotted up 1-1 at the half as the Eagles took the lead in the 27
th minute before yielding a goal in the 35
th. After giving up an early goal in the second half Hasenstab scored his second of the match just a few minutes later and the game remained tied until the Runnin' Bulldogs goal in the 79
th minute. Thorsson scored the game-winning goal on a header off the free kick service of
Pietro Bottari. It was the 11
th career goal for Thorsson and the fourth for a game-winner.
WHO TO WATCHThorsson has scored in back-to-back games and now has three goals and two assists on the season. Hasenstab has also scored in the first two league games and at least one goal in the last four games he's played. Senior
Jordan Stoddart has just one assist on the year but has been knocking on the door to find his first goal of 2015. He's been very close and is currently second on the team with 23 shots (12 on goal). He is due for a break-out game. Hasenstab has two goals in three career games against the Highlanders.
WHAT YOU NEED TO KNOWWinthrop has won three straight games and looks to go 3-0 in league play for the second straight season. The Eagles have scored eight goals in the last three games and 12 in the last four games but on the flip side have allowed eight in the last four games and four in the last three. This will be the second straight season the Eagles face a nationally-ranked Radford squad during the regular season as it jumped into the College Soccer News poll this week at 25
th. The Eagles won the meeting last year in Radford, VA thanks to a
Max Hasenstab goal in a 1-0 upset of the 20
th-ranked Highlanders.
ABOUT OPPONENTRadford broke into the Top 25 of College Soccer News and TopDrawerSoccer.com for the first time this season. It is the second straight season the Highlanders have reached the Top 25 in a national poll. On Sept. 8 Radford was ranked 10
th in the NSCAA South Region, but have not since then despite going 6-1 since then. The Highlanders have won five six straight games and over the last three games have outscored their opponents 12-2. With that the Highlanders have moved to 6
th nationally in scoring and tops in the Big South at 2.36 goals per game. The offense is balanced with three different players leading the way with five goals (Sivert Daehlie, Finn Tiedemann, and Jamie Summers). Daehlie leads the team with 12 points and has three game-winning goals while Summers leads the team with four game-winners.
SERIES HISTORYThis series began in 1984 and is all tied up at 15-15-4 with the last meeting coming in the 2014 semifinals of the Big South Conference Tournament. The Highlanders eliminated the Eagles by advancing in a shootout (4-1) after the game was tied 1-1 after 110 minutes. Winthrop has won three of the last four meetings in the series but Radford holds a 14-13-3 mark when the matchup is a regular season meeting. Five of the last eight meetings have been decided by one goal or less (one tie last season).
