Eagles Blanked For Second Straight Day By Jacksonville In 8-0 Loss

Babe Thomas Had Two Of Winthrop's Six Hits In 8-0 Loss To Jacksonville
Box Score Jacksonville, FL- For the second day in a row, Winthrop's baseball team was shutout by Jacksonville as the Eagles lost 8-0 on Sunday afternoon in the series finale at Sessions Stadium.

The loss drops the Eagles to 6-5 this season, while Jacksonville improved to 3-7 with its first back to back wins of the year. Jacksonville now leads the all-time series over the Eagles 6-2.

Dolphin starting pitcher Justin Russell held the Eagle's offense to just five hits in six innings and struck out four while improving his record to 2-1. JU banged out 15 hits against five Eagle pitchers. Winthrop starter Josh Strong took the loss, giving up three runs on eight hits in 3.2 innings as his record fell to 0-2. Four Winthrop relievers allowed the other seven hits and five runs.

Winthrop freshman Babe Thomas and Chad Smith each had two hits, but not a single Eagle advanced to second base..

JU scored at least one run in five of the first six innings, including three in the fifth frame. The Dolphins scored their final run in the eighth. They were led at the plate by centerfielder Cameron Gibson and first baseman Conner Marabell as both went 3 for 5 at the plate. Gibson knocked in three runs, including one in the fifth, sixth and eight innings. The Eagles committed two errors in the fifth to aid JU's three-run inning. Only one run was unearned,

The Eagles head to Spartanburg on Wednesday to face Wofford at 5 p.m. for the fourth of seven straight road games.
