ROCK HILL, SC— The Lady Eagles tennis team fell 1-6 to #52 Georgia State Saturday morning. The match began at 10:00 am at Winthrop Memorial Tennis Courts. The match drops Winthrop to 5-8 on the season (seven of those opponenets were against ITA ranked opponents.) The Lady Eagles' last chance at an ITA ranked victory will be versus currently ranked #21 Purdue on Thursday, March 14
th in Miami, FL.

Yasmine Alkema (Algiers, Algeria) and junior
Andressa Garcia (Sao Paulo, Brazil) lost to Masa Grgan and Abigail Tere-Apisah 8-9 (3). No. 2 doubles pitted senior Giovanna Portioli (Curitiba, Brazil) and freshman
Alice Garcia (Brasilia, Brazil) against Jocelyn Ffriend and Maryna Kozachenko. The Georgia State #2 duo won the match 5-8. At No. 3 doubles sophomore
Ekin Gunaysu (Ankara, Turkey) and freshman
Caitlin Cridland (Perth, Australia) lost to Chaimaa Roudami and Linn Timmermann 3-8.
Senior
Yasmine Alkema gave Winthrop fans a scare as she was carted off the field in her first set against #22 Abigail Tere-Apisah of Georgia State. Alkema was losing 2-3 before having to forfeit the match due to her injury. Next to finish was No. 6 singles with
Ekin Gunaysu defeating Jocelyn Ffriend 6-2, 6-4. At No. 5 singles
Caitlin Cridland fell to Chaimaa Roudami 1-6, 4-7. At No. 3 singles,
Alice Garcia fell to Whitney Byrd 5-7, 2-6. No. 2 singles,
Andressa Garcia lost to Masa Grgan 0-6, 5-7. Giovanna Portioli lost to Linn Timmermann 6-2, 4-6, 0-1 (7) at No. 4 singles.
Reports came back on Alkema and she sprained her foot. Alkema will miss all of next weeks matches but could return to the courts in 7-10 days.
The Lady Eagles will be back in action on Tuesday, March 12
th at 1:30 pm as they will play conference foe Campbell in Buies Creek, NC. Winthrop will then head to Miami, FL for a date with Purdue on March 14
th and Florida International on March 17
th.
