WINSTON-SALEM, NC-- The Lady Eagles have played a pair of games in North Carolina over the last two days. The Women's Tennis team started in Raleigh, NC on Friday afternoon and fell 4-3 to #73 NC State. The team then traveled to Winston-Salem to play a neutral site game with the Louisiville Lady Cardinals Saturday afternoon and won by a 6-1 decision. After the two games the Lady Ealges' season record sits at 3-6.
Friday afternoon, the Lady Eagles faught hard, but came up short against another nationally ranked opponent. #73 NC State edged Winthrop in a match that lasted almost six hours. NC State started off by grabbing the doubles point with No. 1 doubles. Senior

In the singles match, No. 4 ended first with Portioli losing 5-7, 2-6 to Rachael James-Baker. Big South Freshman Player of the Week

Yasmine Alkema fell to No. 40 Joelle Kissell 2-6, 5-7 in the No. 1 position. No. 2 seed
Andressa Garcia defeated Nicole Martinez 4-6, 7-6, 6-3. Freshman
Caitlin Cridland defeated Elisha Hande 6-4, 2-6, 7-5 in the No. 5 singles. The match was even at three before freshman Uzelac came up short in a tight match with Chloe Smith 2-6, 7-5, 4-6.

In singles play, #107 Alkema beat Julia Fellerhoff 3-6, 6-4, 1-0 (3) in the No. 1 spot. In No. 2 singles
Andressa Garcia lost to Rebecca Shine 0-6, 6-7.
Alice Garcia kept her singles winning streak rolling with a 7-5, 6-3 win over Manuele Velasquez in the No. 3 position.
Alice Garcia has now won five straight singles matches. In No. 4 singles Giovanna Portioli beat Mandy Brown 6-2, 6-1.
Caitlin Cridland defeated Rebecca Bodine 6-3, 6-4 in the No. 5 position and
Ekin Gunaysu beat Stefanie Villajuan 6-2, 6-2 at No. 6 singles.
The Lady Eagles are back in action tomorrow, Sunday Feb. 24th at 1 pm at Winthrop Memorial Tennis Courts. This is Winthrop's first home match since beating Wofford 7-0 back on Jan. 13th.
