In the doubles matches,
Yasmine Alkema (Algiers, Algeria) and
Andressa Garcia (Sao Paulo, Brazil) lost to Jaklin Alawi and Dominika Kanakova 8-1. Alawi and Kanakova rank 46th nationally. 8-1 was also the score that Giovanna Portioli (Curitiba, Brazil) and
Alice Garcia (Brasilia, Brazil) lost by against South Carolina's Josefin Andersson and Katerina Popova. This ended the third match featuring
Caitlin Cridland and
Ekin Gunaysu versus Adriana Pereira and Ximena Siles Luna early with Winthrop trailing 4-5.
The #1 seeds featured two top 100 players in 95th ranked Alkema and 34th ranked Alawi. South Carolina got the point with Alawi defeating Alkema 2-6, 3-6. #2 seed
Andressa Garcia lost to #96 Popova 0-6, 0-6. #3 seed
Alice Garcia fell to Kanakova 3-6, 3-6. Winthrop's lone win came from Portioli who defeated Siles Luna 7-6 (7-1), 6-2. Portioli is 3-0 in single matches so far on the season. The last two matches went into three sets with #5 seed Caitlyn Cridland coming up short to Pereira 1-6, 6-2, 4-6 and #6 seed Gunaysu falling to Andersson 0-6, 6-4, 4-6.
The Lady Eagles have a 13-day break before continuing their road trip to Richmond, Va to play Virginia Commonwealth who is currently ranked 46th nationally.
