Winthrop’s Women Tennis Team Ready to Begin Their Spring Season

Lady Eagles were Big South Champions Last Season
The 2013 Lady Eagles' tennis team are ready for their spring season.  The Lady Eagles return several players including Yasmine Alkema who is ranked 95th nationally.  Other returning starters are Camille` Amrani, Andressa Garcia, Ekin Gunaysu, and Giovanna PortioliMonica Aguado will not be returning in the spring due to illness.

The newcomers on this Eagles team are Caitlin Cridland, Alice Garcia, and Tijana Uzelac.  Coach Carvalho said that his newcomers “will make an immediate impact”. 

“We have a very special group of players that can accomplish a lot this season.  Our main goal is to improve every day and to compete well.” said Cid Carvalho.  “The Big South is getting stronger with Coastal (Carolina), Charleston Southern, Campbell, Liberty… a lot of challenges.”
The Lady Eagles look to build off of their success from last year in which Winthrop posted a 15-11 record.  The Lady Eagles won the Big South last season and then fell to Duke in the NCAA Tournament.

The Lady Eagles will play host to Wofford College on Sunday at 2pm.
