ROCK HILL, SC –
After a valiant effort taking the doubles point, the Winthrop men's tennis team could not keep up with conference rival Coastal Carolina, as the Eagles fell 5-2 Friday afternoon at the Memorial Courts.

The loss brings the Eagles to 9-13 overall and 2-4 in conference play. Coastal goes to 12-3 on the year and 4-1 in the Big South.

With not having participants at No. 3 doubles, the Eagles had to win both doubles matches to earn the point. At the No. 2 spot, Guy Kubi and Yuta Hirokawa went down early, but overcame the deficit to win 8-5 over Yedigarian and Heidecker to clinch the opening point.

In the singles round, Coastal Carolina took control early, taking three matches in straight sets to start the round. Ruppin got the Eagles on the scoreboard first as he knocked off Kusuda 6-4, 6-2 at No. 3 singles. The match came down to No. 2 and No. 4 singles, as both matches went into three sets.
