LEXINGTON, KY – The Winthrop women's tennis team could not find an answer against No. 71 ranked Kentucky as they fell 4-0 Saturday afternoon at the Boone Tennis Complex.
With the loss, the Eagles are currently 4-7 on the season, as the Wildcats improve to 5-1.
The Eagles were unable to keep up with Kentucky in the doubles round, as Kentucky nabbed the doubles point. In No. 2 doubles, freshmen Ekin Gunaysu and Monica Aguado fell to Marni Venter and Edmee Morin-Kougoucheff 8-3.
Andressa Garcia and Camille Amrani dropped at No. 3 doubles to Kentucky's Stephanie Fox and CeCe Witten 8-0.
In the singles round, Winthrop was unable to manage a comeback, falling in three matches, clinching the victory for Kentucky.
Winthrop will be back on the courts on Friday, Feb. 17 when the Eagles open up Big South play at home against Campbell. That match is set for 2 p.m.
