WINSTON-SALEM, NC – The Winthrop men's tennis team was unable to pull off an upset as No. 42 ranked Wake Forest swept the Eagles 7-0 Saturday afternoon at the Wake Forest Indoor Tennis Facility.
The loss drops the Eagles to 2-3 on the season, as Wake improves to 6-4.
In the doubles round, Winthrop came up with a win at No. 3 doubles as
Luka Stanic and
Yuta Hirokawa defeated Connor Sherwood and Alex Tsai 8-2. The victory was the lone highlight for the Eagles as the freshman tandem of
Dylan Comerford and
Rich Meade fell to Danny Kreyman and Adam Lee 8-4 and
Nadav Ruppin and
Guy Kubi dropped to David Hopkins and Amogh Prabhaker 8-4.
Wake Forest continued its dominance in the singles round as they came with every match and did not drop a set.
The Eagles will return to action on Sunday, Feb. 12 as they travel to UNC Wilmington. That match is set for 12 p.m.
