CLEMSON, SC – After earning an upset victory over Wake Forest on Sunday, the No. 67 ranked Winthrop women's tennis team was unable to pull off an another upset, falling to No. 14 ranked Clemson 6-1 Wednesday afternoon at the Clemson Indoor Tennis Facility.
The loss brings the Eagles to 3-2 as the Clemson Lady Tigers improve to 3-0.
Winthrop was able to capture one doubles victory, but was unable to come up with the falling, falling in two of the three matches. The lone victory came at No. 1 doubles as Winthrop junior

Andressa Garcia defeated Nelly Ciolkowski and Keri Wong 8-7.
The Eagles got on the scoreboard in the singles round as Alkema continued her winning ways as she rolled to a 6-3, 6-2 victory over Josipa Bek in No. 1 singles. In No. 2 singles, Garcia tried to rally in the second set, but was unable to fend off No. 65 ranked Keri Wong, falling 6-2, 7-6. Clemson's No. 67 ranked Nelly Ciolkowski knocked off Freshman of the Week Ekin Gunaysu 6-1, 6-2 in No. 3 singles, as
Sandra Herrera was defeated by No. 58 ranked Klara Vyskocilova 6-1, 6-2. Giovanna Portioli and Monica Aguado also fell in straight sets in their matches.
"We played a good match against Clemson," head coach
Cid Carvalho said. "Although we lost, it was good preparation for the ITA Kickoff."
The Eagles will be back on the courts on Friday, Jan. 27 as they travel to Durham, NC to take on No. 68 ranked Illinois. That match is set for 10 a.m.
