CONWAY, SC – The men's tennis remained perfect in the Big South Conference as they took down Coastal Carolina 5-2 Sunday afternoon at the Billy Nichols Tennis Center.

The win brings the Eagles to 13-5 on the season and 3-0 in the conference, as the Chanticleers fall to 8-6 on the year and 1-2 in the Big South.

In doubles play, the Eagles got off to solid start by taking two of the three matches. In No. 2 doubles, Nadav Ruppin and Guy Kubi knocked off Danny Heidecker and Alex Funkhouser 8-6, as Dejon Bivens and Yuta Hirokawa defeated Yusuke Kusuda and John Karle 8-6 in No. 3 doubles.

The Eagles continued to play well as they captured four singles matches, clinching the victory. In No. 1 singles, Sergey Belov took down Matt Gordan 0-6, 6-2, 6-1, as Liran Levy was able to win over Funkhouser 2-6, 6-2, 7-6 in No. 3 singles. In No. 5 singles, Coastal's Dorian Sovic had to retire in the third set to Ruppin, as Hirokawa took down Leo Christofides 7-6, 6-2 in No. 6 singles.

“After winning a tough doubles point, we showed excellent composure in the singles after Coastal took early leads in courts 1, 2 and 3,” assistant coach Andrew Stubbs said. “I am proud of the way our team competed today and pulled out the win.”

The Eagles will be back in action on Saturday, April 9 when they return home to face off against UNC Asheville. That match is set for 12 p.m.
