Men's Tennis Makes It Nine Straight, Blanks Charlotte

CHARLOTTE, NC –
The men's tennis team got their eleventh win of the season as they shut out the Charlotte 49ers 7-0 Wednesday afternoon at the Halton-Wagner Complex.

The win puts the Eagles at 11-5 on the season as the 49ers fall to 3-12.

Winthrop got off to a fast start as they were able to take two of the three doubles match to earn the point. In No. 1 doubles, Sergey Belov and Liran Levy took down Charlotte's Moritz Bernhoerster and Charles Martin-Lecamp 8-6, as Nadav Ruppin and Guy Kubi defeated Anthony Davison and Krysztof Kwasniewicz 9-8 in No. 2 doubles.

The Eagles continued to cruise as they swept through the singles round. Belov continued his winning streak as he defeated Martin-Lecamp 7-5, 6-1 in No. 1 singles. In No. 2 singles Dejon Bivens got a win over Michael Anders 6-2, 6-1, as Levy knocked off Bernhoerster 6-2, 6-7, 1-0 in No. 3 singles. In No. 4 singles Kubi took down Alex Weber 6-3, 6-2, as Ruppin defeated Kwasniewicz 6-2, 7-6 in No. 5 singles. Freshman of the Week Yuta Hirokawa was able to take down Chris Huynh 6-2, 6-1.

The Eagles will return to Big South play as they travel to Presbyterian College on April 1st. That match is set for 2 p.m.
