Men's Tennis Makes It Three Straight On Florida Road Trip, Upsets No. 75 UNF

JACKSONVILLE, FL –
The men's tennis team made it six in a row as the Eagles upset No. 75 ranked North Florida 4-3 Wednesday afternoon at the UNF Tennis Complex.

The win brings the Eagles to 8-5 on the season, as the Ospreys fall to 7-6.

The Eagles did not start well as they failed to win a single doubles match. In No. 1 doubles, Sergey Belov and Liran Levy fell to Beauregard Treyz and Anton Rabinov 8-4. Nadav Ruppin and Guy Kubi dropped to Daniel Sotomarino and Hleb Maslau 8-6 in No. 2 doubles, as North Florida's Leonardo Nahar and Pedro Davisson took down Dejon Bivens and Yuta Hirokawa 8-6 in No. 3 doubles.

Winthrop fought back in the singles round, taking the four matches it needed for the victory. Sergey Belov took another singles match, defeating Sotomarino 6-1, 4-6, 6-1. In No. 3 singles, Levy knocked off Treyz 6-4, 6-3, as Ruppin took down Davisson 6-3, 6-1 in No. 5 singles. Hirokawa also kept his singles winning streak alive, defeating Rabinov in No. 6 singles.

“Our guys gave an unbelievable effort playing in their third match in three days,” assistant coach Andrew Stubbs said. “We had to dig deep for the victory and that is exactly what we did.”

The Eagles will be back in action on Friday, March 18 as they stay in Jacksonville to take on Marquette in a neutral site matchup. That match is set for 10 a.m.
