Men's Tennis Starts Spring Break With Win Over Jacksonville

JACKSONVILLE, FL –
The men's tennis team started their Florida road trip off with a bang as the Eagles took down Jacksonville 7-0 Monday afternoon at the Keith Watson Family Tennis Complex.

The win brings the Eagles to 6-5 on the season, as the Dolphins fall to 2-9 on the year.

The Eagles started well by earning the doubles point, winning all three matches. In No. 1 doubles, Winthrop's Sergey Belov and Liran Levy defeated Larry Condez and Jose Fantova 8-5. Nadav Ruppin and Guy Kubi were able to knock off Logan Shalmi and Lance Lvovsky 8-4 in No. 2 doubles, as Dejon Bivens and Yuta Hirokawa cruised past Andrew Lerner and Pitt Von Oertzen 8-3 in No. 3 doubles.

Winthrop continued to roll in the singles matches as the Eagles did not drop a single match. In No. 1 singles, Belov took down Fantova 7-5, 7-6, as Bivens defeated Condez 6-3, 6-4 in No. 2 singles. Liran Levy continued the winning trend over Lvovsky in No. 3 singles, as Kubi knocked off Shalmi 6-0, 6-3. In No. 5 singles, Ruppin beat Lerner 6-4, 6-0 and Hirokawa took down Von Oertzen 6-4, 6-2.

"I am proud of the way we started well in doubles and stayed focused throughout the match,” assistant coach Andrew Stubbs said. “This was a good start to our spring break trip."

The Eagles will be back in action on Tuesday, March 15 as they will stay in Florida to take on Stetson. That match is set for 2:30 p.m.
