Sergey Belov Has Strong Performance At Southern Intercollegiate

ROCK HILL, SC--Winthrop senior tennis player Sergey Belov had a strong showing at the Southern Intercollegiate held at the University of Georgia as he advanced to the round of 16 after knocking off the tournament's ninth seed.  The Southern Intercollegiate is the nation's oldest and most prestigious collegiate tennis tournament.
Belov defeated Carl Sundberg from the University of Miami in the opening round who was seeded ninth in the Division I singles draw and is ranked 94th in the  NCAA .  Belov then defeated UCF's Claudio Romano in the next round and advanced to the round of 16 before falling. 

Senior Dejon Bivens also played well as he avenged a loss from last season by defeating Blaze Schwartz from UCF while advancing to the round of 32 in division two. Sophomore Liran levy picked up a win in division two singles over Stetson's Alexander Hackett while junior Guy Kubi advanced to the quarterfinals of division 3 singles before falling to eventual champion Taylor Patrick of Tennessee. He defeated Andy Pulido from Vanderbilt Njal Stene from Stetson. 

In doubles action,  Belov and freshman Yuta Hirokawa advanced to the quartfinals of division two doubles before the doubles were cancelled due to rain. They defeated teams from Lipscomb and South Carolina. Levy and Kubi advanced to the round of 16 of division two doubles by defeating teams from UCF and Tennessee. The men's team will be back in action this weekend at the Georgia Tech Invitational.
