CHARLOTTESVILLE, VA--Winthrop freshman Andressa Garcia of Sao Paulo, Brazil began her collegiate career on a strong note by capturing her flight championship with four victories at the UVa Fall Classic which was hosted this past weekend by the Virginia Cavaliers.
Garcia also won two doubles matches as she teamed up with sophomore Yasmine Alkema (Algiers, Algeria). Alkema also picked up two singles wins while senior Sara Abutovic (Ljubijana, Slovenia) claimed one win in her singles draw.
Winthrop victories by the trio came over players from North Carolina State, Virginia, UNC Greensboro, William and Mary, VCU, and Dartmouth. The complete draw can be found at Virginiasports.com.
