ROCK HILL, SC—Winthrop junior distance runner
Adam Freudenthal finished fourth in the 2010 Asics Winthrop Cross Country Invitational and first in the South Carolina Intercollegiate Cross Country Championship which was held Saturday morning on the Winthrop Lake Course.
Freudenthal (Spartanburg, SC) covered the 8K distance in a time of 25:18.18 to lead the Eagle men in the 24th annual invitational which attracted 19 schools. With Freudenthal leading the way, the Winthrop men finished fourth in the Asics event which included all Div. I schools and second in the South Carolina championship.
Winthrop freshman Jeanne Stroud (Charleston, SC) led the Lady Eagles with a fifth place finish in the Asics Winthrop Invitational and a fourth place finish in the SCICCC as she was clocked in 18:25.86.
Appalachian State's men ran away with the men's 8K Asics Winthrop gold division title as the Mountaineers compiled five top 10 finishers and a total of 30 points. Furman took second place. In the garnet division for Div. II and III schools, Mars Hill won the men's crown followed by Mount Olive. In the women's 5K race, South Carolina nipped Appalachian State for the gold team title while Mount Oliver finished first in the garnet division.
In the SCICCC, Furman captured the men's championship with Winthrop taking second place followed by College of Charleston in third. On the women's side, South Carolina earned the team title followed by Furman and College of Charleston.
