ROCK HILL, SC— The Second “Kicks Against Cancer” game presented by the men's and women's soccer and cross country teams as well as the volleyball team, will be played on Tuesday, Aug 24 at Eagle Field at 7 p.m. Fans, boosters and the entire Rock Hill and York County community is invited to come out to the game as admission is free.
It is the second year for the event and the goal for this year is $20,000 and with the help of hundreds of donors, the goal is within reach. In a joint effort with the Pi Kappa Alpha chapter of Winthrop University, who assisted last year, the goal of $10,000 last year was surpassed by over $9,000, Fundraising will continue through kick-off Tuesday night.
Prior to the game the soccer and cross country teams and the volleyball team along with the Pi Kappa Alpha Fraternity will make a check presentation to the American Cancer Society in honor of Dr. Steven Limentani, who is recognized as one of the top doctors in his field of hematology/oncology.
“We are looking forward to the second Kicks Against Cancer on Tuesday night,” said head men's soccer coach Rich Posipanko. “It is a welcomed break from pre-season for all our student-athletes and also a very rewarding event for them. We would really like to have a good fan turnout and would also encourage everyone to make a donation. Our goal is $20,000 and we are approaching that figure.”
The teams and Pi Kappa Alpha are asking for fan support in sponsoring one of the players in the game. You can donate an amount of money to be paid for each minute the player you sponsor participates or you can just donate directly. For example, $1 x. 90 minutes would equal a $90 donation. The donations or pledge is tax deductible and 100% is going directly to the American Cancer Society. All fans are invited to attend the game as you can get a first hand glance at what the 2010 soccer teams have to offer.
