Winthrop Announces 2010 Women's Soccer Schedule

Lady Eagles Will Play 18 Regular Season Contests

2010 Schedule

ROCK HILL
, SC – Winthrop
head women's soccer coach Spencer Smith has announced a 20-game schedule for the 2010 season which includes two exhibition contests and eight regular season home games.

"The 2010 schedule looks to be very challenging,” said Smith. “We have several tough non-conference games and, as always, the Big South Conference will be quite difficult. I imagine every game will prove to be a battle.”

The Lady Eagles begin their season with two exhibition matches, the first one on the road at Wofford (Aug. 14) before hosting The Citadel (Aug. 17).

Winthrop will start its regular season on the road at Georgia Southern (Aug. 20) before returning to Rock Hill to participate in the second annual Kicks vs. Cancer Game with the men's soccer team on Aug. 24 at Eagle Field.

The Lady Eagles will kick off the home portion of their schedule by hosting the Winthrop Invitational on Aug. 27-29. Winthrop plays Marshall (Aug. 27) and Appalachian State (Aug. 29) during the two-day event that wraps up the month of August.

September will begin with a road contest at Jacksonville (Sept. 5) before traveling to participate at the 2010 ETSU Women's Soccer Invitational Tournament presented by DoubleTree Hotel in Johnson City, TN. The Lady Eagles will join the field of three teams that also includes East Tennessee State and Miami of Ohio. The tournament will take place Sept. 10-12 at Summers-Taylor Stadium.

Winthrop will return to Rock Hill to face Georgia State (Sept. 17) before hitting the road for its final two non-conference games of the season at Davidson (Sept. 19) and South Carolina State (Sept. 29).

The Lady Eagles open the Big South Conference portion of their 2010 schedule at home against Gardner-Webb on Oct. 2. The remaining home games for Winthrop throughout the month of October include Radford (Oct. 15), VMI (Oct. 17), Charleston Southern (Oct. 27) and the regular season finale against Coastal Carolina (Oct. 30). The Lady Eagles road contests in October consist of games at Liberty (Oct. 9), High Point (Oct. 11), UNC Asheville (Oct. 22) and Presbyterian (Oct. 24).

The 2010 Big South Conference Tournament will be hosted by Radford University and will be played at Patrick D. Cupp Memorial Stadium.
