ROCK HILL, SC--The Sydney Kings of Australia's National Basketball League has announced the signing of former Winthrop standout Taj McCullough as the newly resurrected franchise revealed seven of the players who will make up their 2010-11 roster. McCullough is the Kings' first American import signed for this season.
McCullough, a 6-7 forward from Atlanta, was linked to the Washington Wizards before signing with the Fort Wayne Mad Ants in the NBDL where he played 36 games averaging 17.6 points, 4.8 rebounds, 1.5 assists and 1.4 steals. After a stint with a team in the Israeli Premier League, McCullough signed with the Latvian club VEF Riga and led them to the Baltic League Quarter Finals

During his Winthrop career, McCullough was a member of four Big South Conference championship teams (2005-08) that earned automatic bids to the NCAA tournament and he was a key member of the 2006-07 Eagle squad that defeated Notre Dame in the first round of the tournament. As a senior he had his best season statistically, averaging 11.6 points and a team-high 5.8 rebounds.
In May of 2006, McCullough played against the Kings during Winthrop's summer tour to New Zealand and Australia. The Kings were the dominate franchise in the NBL before it folded in 2008. Sydney won the 2003, 2004 and 2005 championship and finished as the runner-up in 2006.
